World tourists are now traveling more than ever before. The latest data published by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) show that international tourist arrivals grew by 6% in 2018, a total of 1.4 billion, which was projected to reach only by 2020.
Europe alone recorded 713 million international tourist arrivals, or nearly half of the total.
Next, are the 10+ top most visited countries in Europe and the places these countries attract tourists.
1. France
France has 37 sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and contains cities or sites of high cultural interest (Paris leads the way, but the Loire Valley, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lyon and others), beaches and seaside resorts, Ski resorts in rural areas as well as many people enjoy their beauty and serenity (green tourism)
Small and picturesque French villages of quality heritage (such as Colognese-la-Rouge, Lochranon, or Montsorro) are promoted through the Association Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (literally "the most beautiful villages in France").
Attractions: Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, French Riviera, Chamonix, Mont Saint-Michel, Paris Bridge.
2. Spain
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, only 18.3 million tourists visited Spain in the first eleven months of 2020.
Spain ranks first out of 140 countries in the biennial Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index published by the World Economic Forum in 2019, already holding the top position in 2017 and 2015.
According to The Economist's 2005 Year List, Spain has the 10th highest quality of life style in the world.
